LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organisation with 1.3 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in 205 countries. Lions are men and women who volunteer their time for humanitarian causes. Founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, our motto is "We Serve."
HOW LONG HAVE LIONS BEEN IN THE UK?
Lions came to the UK in 1950. There are now over 850 clubs in the UK & Ireland. In West Cumbria there are clubs in Maryport, Keswick, Cockermouth, Workington and here in Whitehaven.
WHO ARE LIONS IN WHITEHAVEN?
Whitehaven & District Lions Club are a group of around 25 Men and Women who all like to give something back to the community. We form part of a world-wide organisation of Lions Clubs http://www.lionsclubs.org and specifically in the North West. http://www.lions105bn.org.uk
WHAT DO WE DO?
We organise fundraising activities throughout the year and make donations to those in the community who need it the most. We also organise the annual Whitehaven Carnival and assist at other community events.

CAN I JOIN?
We always welcome new members, being a Lion is an excellent way to meet people, develop new skills you never you had and most of all to have fun. So if you can spare a couple of hours a month and want to consider joining the club just send us an email via the "Contact Us" page telling us your preferred contact details and we'll contact you when it suits you. Alternatively if who wish to speak to someone about membership or about the Lions in general please phone 0845 8336 789. It isn't all about fundraising - we have an active social calendar too, so what are you waiting for?
HOW MUCH OF THE MONEY RAISED BY LIONS GOES TOWARDS ADMINISTRATION COSTS?
None!. Each member pays a subscription that pays all administration costs allowing every penny raised through fund raising to go to good causes.
HOW DOES LIONS DIFFER FROM OTHER CHARITIES?
Lions is run by local people at a local level and often reaches those who are overlooked or are ineligible for grants from larger national or international charities.
